Mumbai, Feb 20 : The alleged Ranveer Singh extortion threat has prompted a multi-agency probe after a WhatsApp voice message demanding ₹10 crore was reportedly sent from a US based phone number to the actor’s manager.

According to Mumbai Police, the audio clip sought a hefty payout and immediately raised red flags due to its overseas origin. Investigators suspect the voice could belong to an associate of the Bishnoi gang, identified as Harry Boxer, though forensic verification is still underway.

The Crime Branch has initiated formal communication with American authorities to trace the number and establish its ownership. Statements have been recorded, but officials have clarified that the matter remains at a preliminary enquiry stage, with no FIR registered yet.

Possible connection to recent firing incident

The development follows a recent shooting outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, where multiple rounds were discharged. Police later arrested three individuals allegedly hired for the attack, with investigators claiming the Bishnoi network took responsibility. Authorities recovered a country-made firearm used to fire high-velocity 7.62 mm rounds.

Soon after the firing, a social media account linked to a wanted gang member issued a threatening post, describing the incident as merely a “trailer.” The individual is reportedly facing charges in several high-profile cases.
