Rapper Ghetts Could Face Jail Following Fatal UK Car Crash Killing Nepali Student

Award winning grime artist admits to causing death by dangerous driving while allegedly over the legal alcohol limit

UK, Dec 09 : Award winning grime artist Ghetts, real name Justin Clarke-Samuel, has admitted to causing the death of 20 year old Nepali student Yubin Tamang in a hit and run accident in north-east London. The collision occurred on 18 October at around 11:30 PM on Redbridge Lane, Ilford. Police reports indicate Ghetts was driving a BMW M5 at over 60mph in a 30mph zone when he struck Yubin, who was crossing the road.

Tragic Loss

Yubin, an only child sent to the UK by his parents to pursue higher education, sustained severe injuries and died two days later in hospital. The court heard moving tributes highlighting the young student’s life and the profound loss felt by his family and community.

Guilty Pleas in Court

During a hearing via videolink from Pentonville Prison, Ghetts, 41, from Woodford, east London, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving as well as a second charge of dangerous driving. Additional charges include driving over the legal alcohol limit and further dangerous driving incidents.

The judge warned Ghetts to expect a custodial sentence, though the length of imprisonment and the duration of the driving ban will be decided at sentencing on 12 February, when all remaining charges will also be addressed.

Alcohol and Dangerous Driving Allegations

Police say Ghetts had 119 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit, which has led to the charge of causing death by careless driving while intoxicated. Further allegations involve dangerous driving incidents on Worcester Crescent and other Redbridge roads on the same night, demonstrating a pattern of reckless behaviour behind the wheel.

The case has drawn widespread attention, underscoring concerns over celebrity accountability and road safety in the UK.
