Mumbai, Dec 03 : Mumbai’s layered cityscape of glimmering skyscrapers and sprawling slums takes center stage in the Marathi drama Ticha Shahar Hona, directed and written by Rasika Agashe. The 98-minute film delves into the lives of the city’s often unheard residents, showing how Mumbai shapes its people and how they, in turn, transform the city.
At the heart of the story is Archana (Sonali Kulkarni), an upper-middle class working woman whose life in a luxurious high-rise seems perfectly balanced with a loving husband and six-year old daughter. But her routine is disrupted when she meets Kiran Pawar, a fearless and outspoken house help who challenges social norms. Kiran’s sudden death in a road accident leaves Archana haunted by guilt, prompting her to explore Kiran’s world in the slums a world of struggle, dreams, and resilience that transforms her perspective.
The film features a talented ensemble cast including Prasad Dak, Chhaya Kadam, Omkar Gowardhan, Hemangi Kavi, and Sagar Deshmukh. Cinematographer Harshvardhan Waghdhare captures Mumbai’s stark contrasts, while the score by Vijay Gavande, Chaitanya Adkar, and Rahul Ranade, complemented by Roby Abraham Daniel’s background music and sound design from Abhijeet Shesh and Abhishek Kothari, enriches the viewing experience.
Ticha Shahar Hona has already earned international acclaim, winning awards at film festivals in Istanbul, Vancouver, Sweden, and Bhutan. It also received multiple Maharashtra State Awards, including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Debutant Director.
