Announcement of Assembly elections sole prerogative of Election Commission of India
JAMMU, APR 24: Ravinder Raina, President Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir along with Kavinder Gupta and Dr Nirmal Singh today discussed current scenario of this Union Territory in the context of elections of Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies and Lok Sabha during a meeting held at the Party headquarters here today.
The BJP stalwarts at the very outset of the meeting welcomed the statement of Chief Election Officer (CEO) P.K Pole whereby he asserted that three elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory during the ongoing financial year. They said that it is the essence of democracy in India to have a three tier system in place so that the people get a feel of the implementation of this system in letter and spirit at the grass roots level. They said that it was unfortunate that the people of J&K remained deprived of this basic democratic right for long and full credit goes to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Govt for providing the three tier democracy to the people of J&K by conducting Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections here.
The senior BJP leaders said that while the ULB and Panchayat elections will be conducted by the J&K government but regarding the Assembly elections the date/s and schedule announcement is the sole prerogative of the Election Commission of India which is expected any time. They said that the ECI team will be visiting J&K very soon and the outcome will depend on the visiting team’s meticulous analysis of the situation in this fragile Union Territory.
Meanwhile, the BJP stalwarts, while asserting that the Government at the Centre is quite serious about each and every issue pertaining to J&K, they appealed to the people to have faith in the Modi Government and wait for the announcement by the Election Commission of India after its team concludes the Jammu and Kashmir visit.
