Regional Transport Authority approves additional routes for E-Rickshaw services in Srinagar

13-03-2023 : The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) held a meeting at the DC Office Complex in Srinagar, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Aijaz. Several officials, including the SSP Traffic and Regional Transport Officer, were present at the meeting. The agenda included discussions on the approval of additional last mile connectivity routes for E-Rickshaws, fresh regular stage/contract carriage permits, and identification of space for operation of contract carriage service vehicles.

The meeting also addressed the identification of blackspots and the development of an action plan to address them. The DC approved 55 additional hungry routes for E-Rickshaw services, emphasizing their restriction on congested routes to avoid traffic congestion. The DC also stressed the need for efficient and effective route plans, and urged concerned officers to undertake a comprehensive survey to check the feasibility, cost-benefit analysis, and identify hungry routes in different parts of the City.

The meeting also discussed measures to overcome traffic jams and provide better transport services, including the procurement of Smart Buses. The advantages of e-Rickshaws, including their ease of transport for common people, safe travel for women, and reduction of pollution, were highlighted.
