JAMMU, October 11: Congress Leader and District Development Council (DDC) Member, Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, reaffirmed his call for the restoration of statehood and the prompt organization of elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today lamented the reluctance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold elections, asserting that the party appears ill-prepared and uncertain about facing the democratic process. He emphasized that democratic elections are a fundamental pillar of India’s vibrant democracy and should not be postponed or avoided.
Drawing attention to the statements made by the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, all affirming the prevailing peace in the region, Tony questioned why the Election Commission is delaying the announcement of elections. He called upon the Election Commission to carefully consider these statements and act in accordance with the democratic principles that India upholds.
Tony implored the Election Commission to act swiftly and decisively by announcing the schedule for elections in Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay. He believed that this would not only restore the democratic rights of the people in the region but also strengthen the democratic fabric of the nation.
