Retail and E-Commerce Sales Surge Ahead of Mid-Year Festive Demand
Strong consumer spending and online discounts drive higher sales across major retail categories.
Mumbai, June 27: India’s retail and e-commerce sectors reported a noticeable rise in consumer spending during the final week of June, supported by online promotional campaigns and expectations of upcoming festive demand.
Retailers said categories such as smartphones, fashion, home appliances, beauty products and travel bookings witnessed strong traction. E-commerce platforms recorded higher order volumes as shoppers took advantage of seasonal discounts and exchange offers.
Industry executives believe improving consumer confidence and stable inflation in several product categories have encouraged discretionary spending. Urban markets remained the primary growth driver, though companies also reported increasing participation from smaller cities and towns.
Analysts said digital payment adoption and faster delivery networks continue to support the expansion of online shopping across India. Many retailers have intensified omnichannel strategies by integrating physical stores with online platforms.
Market researchers estimate that mid-year sales events could generate one of the strongest quarterly performances for the sector since the beginning of 2026. Several companies are expected to launch additional promotions in July to maintain momentum.
Businesses are also preparing for higher inventory demand ahead of the festive season, with logistics firms reporting increased movement of consumer goods across major distribution centres.
While competition among retailers remains intense, industry observers expect consumer spending to remain resilient in the coming months, providing support to broader economic growth.
