Rising Infiltration Bids along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir Aim to Sustain Terrorism, Says J&K DGP
17-06-2023 : The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbagh Singh, has expressed concerns over the continuous infiltration attempts being made along the Line of Control (LoC) in the region. According to DGP Singh, these infiltration bids are aimed at keeping terrorism alive in Jammu and Kashmir.
While terrorism has been on the decline in the region, successful infiltration attempts have occurred in the Rajouri-Poonch areas, where militants managed to enter and target civilians and security forces. DGP Singh highlighted the positive developments in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that after a long period, people are experiencing peace dividends. Children are attending school, businesses are functioning without disruptions, and tourists are visiting in large numbers.
However, DGP Singh acknowledged that despite the decline in terrorism, efforts from across the LoC persist in pushing terrorists into the region to sustain their activities. He praised the security forces for foiling the majority of infiltration attempts but acknowledged that some militants managed to enter from Rajouri-Poonch and Kupwara sectors, carrying out recent attacks. Security operations are underway to track these groups, and the DGP expressed confidence that they will be neutralized soon.
The DGP highlighted recent successful operations, including the foiling of six infiltration bids and the killing of five terrorists in the Jamagund area of Kupwara district. A significant quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists. Another infiltration attempt was thwarted in the Poonch sector, preventing a group of terrorists from entering the region.
Responding to a question about the violation of the existing ceasefire pact, the DGP stated that both sides generally follow the agreement in spirit, but there are efforts to push militants into Jammu and Kashmir to maintain instability. Regarding the upcoming Yatra pilgrimage, the DGP assured that all necessary security arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth and peaceful event.
DGP Singh commended the people of Jammu and Kashmir for rejecting violence and embracing a peaceful life. He also addressed the issue of drug addiction among a significant number of youth in the region and advocated for a social initiative by civil society to combat the menace, in addition to the ongoing efforts by the police.
During the Jashn-e-Dal program, DGP Singh highlighted the event as an opportunity to showcase the hospitality of Kashmir. Around 600 children with an interest in water sports participated, and the DGP expressed a desire to provide them with a platform at the national and international level. He praised the beauty and peacefulness of Dal Lake, emphasizing that people are freely enjoying their time without fear. While there are elements that continue to conspire and disrupt peace, the police remain vigilant and determined to foil such plans on all fronts.
