New Delhi, 11-07-2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently engaging with prominent economists to gather their insights and recommendations ahead of the upcoming Budget presentation for 2024-25, according to a senior government official. Scheduled for July 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present this crucial budget in the Lok Sabha. The meeting, attended by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and other members, also included key figures like Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran, economists Surjit Bhalla and Ashok Gulati, and veteran banker K V Kamath.
The 2024-25 Budget holds particular significance as it marks the first major economic policy statement of Modi 3.0 administration, aiming to outline a roadmap towards India’s development as a developed nation by 2047. President Droupadi Murmu, in her recent address to Parliament, hinted at substantial reforms planned by the government. Sitharaman has already engaged with various stakeholders, including economists and industry leaders, to shape a budget that reflects the government’s forward-looking policies and strategies. Key recommendations include tax relief for consumers, measures to curb inflation, and initiatives to boost economic growth, following a notable 8.2% GDP growth in 2023-24.
