Rohit Sharma Falls for Duck in Jaipur; Virat Kohli Scores 77 off 61 Balls

Star duo’s contrasting fortunes as Mumbai and Delhi face tough challenges in second round matches

India, Dec 26 : The second round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 on Friday, December 26, witnessed contrasting performances from India’s cricketing stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in two high-profile matches.

At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Mumbai suffered an early setback as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Devendra Bora. The early exit disappointed thousands of fans who had hoped to witness another big innings from the former India captain. This dismissal followed Rohit’s spectacular performance in Mumbai’s opening match against Sikkim, where he scored a rapid 155 off 94 balls, including 18 fours and nine sixes, equalling David Warner’s world record for most 150-plus scores in List A cricket (nine).

Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli showcased his class for Delhi but fell short of a century, being stumped for 77 off 61 balls. This innings marked Kohli’s sixth consecutive fifty in List A cricket, continuing his remarkable form. Kohli had earlier made headlines by scoring a brilliant 131 off 101 balls in Delhi’s opening match against Andhra on December 24, 2025, becoming the fastest player to reach 16,000 runs in List A cricket.

Both Rohit and Kohli are making notable returns to domestic cricket, with Rohit surpassing his own fastest ODI hundred record (63 balls) during his opening match, and Kohli featuring in India’s domestic 50-over competition after a 15-year gap, last playing in February 2010 for Delhi in the Ranji One-Day Trophy.
