Rohit Sharma’s Explosive Comeback Sparks IPL Fear, Says Anil Kumble

Dominant knock signals Mumbai Indians opener’s return to peak form as experts warn rivals

New Delhi, Mar 30: Former India captain Anil Kumble has cautioned IPL teams about the resurgence of Rohit Sharma, who delivered a commanding performance to guide Mumbai Indians to a convincing victory over Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Mumbai opener played a breathtaking innings, scoring 78 runs off just 38 deliveries, anchoring a comfortable six-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium. The performance also marked a rare positive start for Mumbai, breaking their trend of losing opening matches in previous seasons.

Kumble highlighted the confidence and fluency in Rohit’s batting, describing it as a clear indication of a renewed phase in his career. He noted that the ease with which the veteran batter handled both pace and spin reflected his return to top form.

The former coach also emphasized how Rohit countered a strong bowling attack featuring Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Blessing Muzarabani. According to him, such effortless stroke play against quality bowlers underlined the batter’s preparation and improved fitness levels.

While praising Mumbai’s dominance, Kumble pointed out tactical shortcomings from Kolkata. He observed that the team did not fully utilize its spin resources, particularly questioning the delayed introduction of Narine during crucial early overs.

He further stated that by the time key bowlers were brought into the attack, the momentum had already shifted in Mumbai’s favour. Effective use of experienced players, he added, remains critical in high-pressure contests.

With this impactful start, Rohit’s return to form is being seen as a significant boost for Mumbai and a potential concern for opposing teams in the tournament.
