RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Security Elevated to ASL Level, Matching Amit Shah’s Protection

New Delhi, Aug 28: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has significantly upgraded the security of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, elevating his protection from the existing ‘Z+’ level to the more stringent Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) protocol. This enhanced security brings Bhagwat’s protection on par with that of Home Minister Amit Shah, reflecting a heightened awareness of potential threats.

This upgrade, which took effect on August 16, was based on a detailed threat analysis report submitted to the MHA by the Intelligence Bureau. The report identified emerging vulnerabilities and threats, particularly from radical Islamist groups and in states governed by non-BJP parties, necessitating the adoption of the ASL protocol for Bhagwat’s security.

Previously, the ASL protocol was implemented only during Bhagwat’s visits to certain high-risk areas. However, with the new directive, the protocol will now be applied universally, ensuring consistent and comprehensive protection. The security enhancement includes increased coordination among local agencies, including district administrations, police, and health departments, across all states and Union Territories.

Under the ASL protocol, Bhagwat’s security detail, currently provided by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), will be augmented to include more stringent measures. This includes the use of specially designed helicopters for air travel, mandatory anti-sabotage inspections, and the establishment of multi-layered security perimeters to ensure his safety at all times.

Bhagwat is one of 10 individuals in India with ‘Z+’ security cover, and among the 200 protectees under CISF protection. The decision to elevate his security underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the growing security concerns surrounding key national figures.
