Western Cape, Jan 3: Lhuan-dre Pretorius lit up SA20 season four with an unbeaten 98, steering Paarl Royals to a thrilling one run victory over MI Cape Town in a gripping Western Cape derby at Boland Park.

The climax came down to the final over, with Royals’ seamer Ottniel Baartman defending 15 runs. With six needed off the last delivery, George Linde’s well timed shot fell just short of the rope, sending Royals fans into jubilation.

Pretorius, after a quiet start to the season, returned to form at his home ground, smashing 10 boundaries and two sixes in his 65-ball innings. He narrowly missed out on a maiden T20 century, dismissed by Rabada on a dot ball. Pretorius’ heroics earned him the fan-voted Player of the Match award with 72% support, beating Sikandar Raza, Asa Tribe, and Rassie van der Dussen.

The Royals’ innings was anchored by Pretorius and Asa Tribe, who put on a 100-run opening stand in just 10.4 overs before MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan broke through, dismissing Tribe for 51. MI Cape Town started strongly, with Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton putting on 77 runs in 7.5 overs, but Royals’ Sikandar Raza (3/27) and Baartman (4/51) stemmed the flow with crucial wickets.
