Sagar reaffirms NC’s historic commitment to people’s rights, working classes

Calls restoration of statehood first and most essential step towards restoration of other political, constitutional, democratic rights of the people

Srinagar, 14 Oct: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar Tuesday reaffirmed the party’s historic role as a guardian of the rights of the people, a champion of the working class, and a staunch defender of secularism.

Addressing party workers and media representatives in Srinagar, Sagar spoke at length about the National Conference’s unmatched contribution to the political awakening and socio-economic upliftment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Recalling the progressive policies of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and successive NC governments, Sagar said the party laid the foundation for inclusive development through transformative land reforms, expansion of education, public health, and social welfare schemes that reached the last person in the queue. “The National Conference is not just a political party; it is a movement that rose from the soil of this land, from the hopes and struggles of its people,” he stated.

He stressed that the party has always worked for the poor, the laborers, farmers, artisans, and underprivileged sections of society, making pro-people governance its core identity. Sagar also highlighted the NC’s consistent commitment to secularism and inclusive politics, saying the party has never allowed communal or regional divisions to shape its policies or politics. “Our commitment to the unity of Jammu, and Kashmir is unwavering. We have always upheld secularism not just in words, but in action and intent,” he said.

On the current political situation, Sagar reiterated the National Conference’s clear and consistent stand on the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, calling it the first and most essential step towards the restoration of other political, constitutional, and democratic rights of the people. “Statehood is not just a political demand; it is about reclaiming the people’s dignity, their voice, and their rightful place in the democratic framework of the country. The National Conference will continue to strive for this goal through democratic and peaceful means,” he said.

Calling upon party functionaries and grassroots workers to strengthen public outreach, Sagar urged them to carry forward the party’s legacy with renewed resolve and energy. He encouraged the youth to take ownership of the region’s future and participate actively in the democratic process. “We must remain committed to our values of service, sacrifice, and sincerity. The National Conference belongs to the people, it was built by them, and it will always stand by them,” he concluded.
