Sakina Itoo Highlights Govt Focus on Healthcare and Horticulture Protection in Kashmir

Kashmir Govt Focused on Strengthening Healthcare, Supporting Horticulture, and Ensuring Development Benefits Reach Citizens

Kulgam, Sept 24: Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakina Itoo, emphasized the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare and safeguarding Kashmir’s horticulture sector while ensuring development benefits reach citizens directly.

Speaking at the inauguration of a newly constructed health building worth Rs 2.71 crore in Aravani village, Itoo stated, “From new hospitals to MRI and cath labs, our focus is on improving patient care and providing facilities at people’s doorsteps.”

Addressing former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s criticism that the government had “broken the back” of fruit growers, she remarked, “Horticulture is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy. Any difficulties faced by growers today are the result of years of neglect and flawed policies by previous administrations. We are fully committed to protecting and strengthening this vital sector.”

Itoo also called for a probe into development works executed post-2018, highlighting, “Even a little rainfall damages roads and bunds. Vigilance and inquiry are needed to understand why such works collapsed despite heavy spending.” She added, “The purpose of this government is clear: we aim to serve the people and reduce their problems with sincerity.”
