Sanjay Raut Rejects Om Birla’s Lok Sabha Remark, Terms It ‘Laughable
Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Also Criticises Centre, Says Nation at Risk Under Current Government
New Delhi, Feb. 7: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday brushed aside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s assertion that some Congress MPs might approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s seat in the House and attempt an “unexpected act,” describing the claim as “laughable.”
Speaking to reporters, the Rajya Sabha MP also launched a sharp attack on the Union government, alleging that the country’s interests are under threat. He further claimed that the recently announced Indo-US trade arrangement has weakened India’s position, calling the nation a “slave” under the agreement.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington would reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25% to 18% following a phone conversation with Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister welcomed the development, saying the lower duties would benefit “Made in India” products.
Birla had informed the House on Wednesday that he had received “concrete information” suggesting several Congress members could move toward the Prime Minister’s seat during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. He said the possibility prompted him to request the Prime Minister not to attend the session at that time.
When the Lok Sabha reconvened at 3 pm after multiple adjournments, the Speaker remarked that such an incident would have severely damaged the country’s democratic traditions.
