Saudi Arabia Issues Emergency Alerts Over Potential Threat in Jeddah, Mecca and Taif

RIYADH, Sept 15: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday issued emergency alerts to residents in the western cities of Jeddah, Mecca and Taif, warning of a “potential danger” and instructing people to seek shelter and follow official safety guidance.

The alerts were disseminated through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, according to the Saudi Civil Defense. Authorities did not immediately disclose the nature of the threat or provide further details about its possible source.

Residents were advised to remain calm and move promptly to the nearest safe location. Officials recommended staying inside buildings, preferably in interior rooms away from windows, and remaining sheltered until the situation was declared safe.

The Civil Defense also urged people to avoid open spaces, windows, balconies and rooftops. Those who were outdoors when the warnings were received were instructed to enter the nearest building or take cover behind a solid structure.

Motorists were advised to pull over at a safe location away from bridges and high-rise buildings. Authorities also called on residents to avoid unnecessary gatherings and areas considered potentially hazardous.

People were further urged to rely on official government channels for updates and additional instructions rather than unverified information circulating on social media.

The warnings were issued against the backdrop of heightened tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement. The group has carried out missile and drone attacks in the region in recent days, including strikes directed at Saudi territory and infrastructure.

Saudi forces have responded with military operations targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, adding to concerns over the potential for further escalation in the region.
