SDM Orders Ban on Megaphones by Mobile Vendors in Zainapora
Order issued under BNSS 2023 to curb loud announcements, road congestion and public inconvenience.
Shopian, Nov 21: The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zainapora, Shopian, has issued a strict public order prohibiting mobile vendors from using mikes, megaphones and loudspeakers while selling fruits and other items from moving vehicles across the subdivision.
The directive follows a series of complaints and representations from residents, as well as inputs received during the Block Diwas held on November 19 under the supervision of the District Magistrate, Shopian. Locals reported persistent noise pollution, disturbance, and traffic obstruction caused by vendors using loud audio equipment while driving through streets and residential areas.
According to the notice, such practices have been creating noise and environmental pollution, causing public inconvenience, and making roads susceptible to congestion and accidents. The SDM noted that these activities were being carried out in a manner “not approved by the Government,” making them hazardous to public health and comfort.
Invoking powers under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, the SDM ordered that no vendor in Zainapora subdivision shall henceforth use megaphones, mikes or loudspeakers while operating from moving vehicles.
The order states that the step has been taken “pro bono publico” to curb noise pollution and ensure safe and smooth movement on the roads. Any violation of the directive, the SDM warned, will attract strict penal action under the law.
The administration has urged vendors to comply immediately to avoid penalties and contribute to a cleaner, quieter and safer environment for the public.
