Second Missing Soldier Found Dead in South Kashmir, Search Operations Conclude

Intensive four-day rescue operation ends as both soldiers found in Kokernag’s snowbound forests

Kashmir, Oct 10 : The body of the second missing soldier of the 5 PARA (Special Forces) of the Indian Army was recovered on Friday afternoon from the upper reaches of Kokernag in South Kashmir.

The soldier, along with a teammate, went missing after a severe snowstorm struck the dense Gadol forests on the night of October 6-7 while they were engaged in a search operation. The first soldier’s body was recovered yesterday, marking the beginning of the operation’s conclusion.

Security forces, including the Army, CRPF, and Jammu & Kashmir Police, had launched an intensive search and rescue mission in the snowbound area, braving freezing temperatures and rough terrain to trace the missing personnel.

Both soldiers were part of a special operations team conducting anti-terrorist searches in the challenging heights of Kokernag. The recovery of their bodies has now brought an end to the massive four-day operation.
