Security Forces Recover 10 Balloons with Pakistani Flags Near LoC in Kashmir

Ten balloons seized in Baramulla, another recovered in Kupwara; security intensified in border areas

Srinagar, Dec 24: Security forces on Wednesday recovered ten balloons carrying Pakistani flags in north Kashmir close to the Line of Control (LoC), prompting heightened vigilance and surveillance in the sensitive border areas, officials said.

According to officials, balloons bearing Pakistani flags were seen landing near Sarna Top in the Khadinayar area of Baramulla district. The objects were spotted by a patrolling party of the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles during routine area domination.

“The balloons and the flag were immediately seized and taken into custody for further examination,” the officials said.

In a separate incident, another balloon bearing the inscription of Pakistan International Airlines was found lodged atop a tree in an orchard at Naugam in the Handwara area of Kupwara district, also located near the LoC.

The balloon was first noticed by local residents, who alerted the security forces. Army personnel subsequently reached the spot and recovered the object, officials added.

Authorities said additional details were awaited, while security agencies continue to maintain heightened alertness along the LoC.
