Security Grid Tightened Across Jammu Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2026

Police, CAPFs and intelligence agencies intensify area domination, border patrols and surveillance to ensure a safe pilgrimage beginning July 3.

Jammu, Jun 28: With just days left for the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, security agencies have significantly intensified anti-terror operations and surveillance across Jammu district, creating a multi-layered security shield to ensure the peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

The annual pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28. In preparation, Jammu and Kashmir Police, assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other security agencies, have launched extensive security exercises across sensitive areas.

Officials said long-range patrols were carried out in the border belts of Arnia, Salehar, Rathana, Chak Jagtoo and adjoining villages. Security personnel also conducted area domination exercises in Bishnah, R.S. Pura and Miran Sahib to strengthen surveillance and reassure local residents.

Special search operations were simultaneously conducted in vulnerable locations, including villages situated near the International Border and areas adjoining the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Security personnel verified suspicious movements, inspected abandoned structures and enhanced vehicle checking at important entry and exit points.

Authorities stated that the ongoing operations are aimed at preventing infiltration attempts, disrupting any plans by anti-national elements and ensuring a secure atmosphere before the arrival of thousands of pilgrims.

Police teams also interacted with village defence groups, local representatives and residents, requesting them to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity. Officials emphasised that public cooperation remains a crucial component of the overall security strategy.

Meanwhile, intelligence based checking has been intensified at railway stations, bus terminals, hotels, lodges and major market areas. CCTV surveillance has been strengthened while quick response teams have been positioned at strategic locations to respond swiftly to any emergency.

Senior police officers reviewed the deployment pattern and directed field officers to maintain continuous patrolling, especially in vulnerable stretches along the pilgrimage routes. Modern surveillance equipment, drone monitoring and technical intelligence are also being used to monitor sensitive areas.

The administration has appealed to residents and pilgrims not to pay attention to rumours and to rely only on official advisories issued by the government and security agencies.

Officials reiterated that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims, including medical facilities, disaster response teams, traffic regulation, emergency communication systems and round the clock monitoring of both Baltal and Pahalgam routes.

The large-scale security exercise reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring that devotees undertake the pilgrimage in a peaceful, secure and well-managed environment.
