Seven Naxals Surrender to Chhattisgarh Police in Gariyaband

Security forces continue successful anti-Naxal operations as surrendered cadres receive rehabilitation and training to reintegrate into society.

GARIYABAND, Chhattisgarh, Nov 8: Seven Naxals, carrying a combined bounty of Rs 37 lakh, surrendered before the Chhattisgarh Police in Gariyaband district on Friday, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing anti Naxal operations.

“I believe this is a historic success. Seven Naxalite members of the Udanti area committee have surrendered today,” Raipur Range IG Amresh Mishra told ANI. He added, “For 25 years, security forces have worked tirelessly to weaken and dismantle the Naxalite organization. These individuals have chosen the right path. They had six weapons with them.”

This follows a major surrender in October, when 21 Naxals including Keshkal Division Committee Secretary Mukesh, 13 women cadres, and eight male cadres carrying 18 weapons laid down arms in Bastar.

Inspector General of Police Bastar, P. Sundarraj, highlighted the progress in Chhattisgarh’s fight against Left Wing Extremism. “In the last 20 months, over 2,200 Naxals have joined the mainstream. More than 450 Naxalite bodies, including top cadres like Basavaraju, were recovered in the last two seasons,” he said.

Surrendered Naxals are provided with skills development training, economic benefits, and monetary assistance to reintegrate into society. Sundarraj added that a comprehensive action plan has enabled the police to systematically reduce Naxal activity in the region.

“This progress brings us closer to our goal of making Chhattisgarh Naxal free by March 31, 2026,” Sundarraj said, emphasizing the significance of sustained security operations and rehabilitation efforts.
