Seventeen MPs Conferred Sansad Ratna Awards 2025 for Outstanding Parliamentary Performance

New Delhi, July 26: In recognition of exceptional contributions to parliamentary proceedings and democratic engagement, seventeen Members of Parliament have been honoured with the prestigious Sansad Ratna Awards 2025. These awards celebrate the highest standards of legislative performance in the Lok Sabha, highlighting dedication, debate participation, bill contributions, and committee work.

Prominent among the awardees are Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), Ravi Kishan and Nishikant Dubey of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Arvind Sawant of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), all of whom have demonstrated consistent excellence in their parliamentary roles.

In a special category, four Members of Parliament have received the Special Jury Awards for their sustained and distinguished performance across three consecutive Lok Sabha terms. These include:

    • Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP, Odisha)
    • N K Premachandran (Revolutionary Socialist Party, Kerala)
    • Supriya Sule (NCP-SP, Maharashtra)
    • Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena, Maharashtra)

These MPs have maintained an unbroken record of top-tier participation and contribution since the 16th Lok Sabha, earning accolades for their consistency and commitment to strengthening parliamentary democracy.

Other notable recipients of the Sansad Ratna Awards 2025 include:

    • Smita Uday Wagh (BJP)
    • Naresh Mhaske (Shiv Sena)
    • Varsha Gaikwad (Indian National Congress)
    • Medha Kulkarni (BJP)
    • Praveen Patel (BJP)
    • Bidyut Baran Mahato (BJP)
    • Dilip Saikia (BJP)

The awardees were selected based on comprehensive data on parliamentary participation, including attendance, debates, questions raised, and private member bills introduced, using information provided by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

In the committee category, the Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Bhartruhari Mahtab, and the Standing Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Dr. Charanjit Singh Channi (Congress), were also honoured. Both committees received high praise for the depth, clarity, and policy relevance of their reports, as well as for their crucial role in providing effective legislative oversight and accountability.

The Sansad Ratna Awards, instituted in 2010 and inspired by the vision of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, continue to serve as an important benchmark for performance-based recognition of parliamentarians. The initiative is widely regarded as one of the few non-governmental, data-driven platforms for honouring democratic excellence in India’s highest law-making body.
