Shah: Putin’s Praise for Modi Shows India Is the World’s Most Trusted Voice
Putin says Modi consistently raises Ukraine peace efforts and has ideas for a mutually acceptable settlement.
NEW DELHI, Oct 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s appreciation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote peace underlined India’s growing role in addressing global conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
In a post on X, Shah said Putin’s remarks were a matter of pride for Indians, particularly as they came on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, whom he described as a global symbol of peace and non-violence.
Shah said Modi’s approach has emphasised that conflicts cannot be resolved on the battlefield and that dialogue remains the way forward in an increasingly uncertain international environment.
He also highlighted India’s response to global crises and disasters, saying the country has consistently stepped forward to extend assistance wherever needed. According to Shah, the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam has gained greater recognition internationally through India’s engagement with the world.
The Home Minister said India’s position has acquired significance in international crises and that the country’s views are closely followed because of Modi’s diplomatic engagement.
Putin, meanwhile, said Modi has repeatedly raised the issue of ending the Ukraine conflict during their meetings and has shown a sustained interest in finding a settlement.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday, Putin said the Indian prime minister regularly discusses ways to end the war despite the close relationship between the two countries.
“Prime Minister Modi’s position on ending wars” has been consistent, Putin said, adding that Modi raises the issue during every meeting and asks questions about resolving the conflict.
The Russian president further said Modi had put forward ideas aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions to the Ukraine crisis.
Putin’s comments came amid continued international efforts to find a diplomatic path towards ending the conflict in Ukraine.
