Shubman Gill Penalised ₹12 Lakh for Gujarat Titans’ Slow Over Rate vs Delhi Capitals
Gujarat Titans secure dramatic one run victory over Delhi Capitals despite penalty setback
NEW DELHI, Apr 9: Shubman Gill, captain of Gujarat Titans, has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their high intensity clash against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
The penalty was imposed following Match No. 14 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where Gujarat Titans clinched a thrilling one run victory in a last-ball finish. The fine comes under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over rate violations. As it was the team’s first offence of the season, Gill received a monetary penalty.
Despite the disciplinary action, Gujarat Titans delivered a strong performance to register their first win of the campaign. The match turned into a nail biting contest, with Delhi Capitals falling just short in a high scoring chase of 210 runs.
The final moments saw a dramatic twist when David Miller declined a crucial single on the penultimate delivery bowled by Prasidh Krishna, only to miss the final ball under pressure. In the ensuing chaos, Kuldeep Yadav attempted a desperate run but was run out following a sharp direct hit from Jos Buttler.
Delhi Capitals eventually finished at 209 for 8, falling agonizingly short of the target. The gripping encounter kept fans on edge until the final delivery, highlighting the competitive intensity of the ongoing IPL season.
Looking ahead, Gujarat Titans will travel to face Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday, while Delhi Capitals are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Saturday.
