Simu Liu reveals the grueling, injury filled experience behind filming ‘The Copenhagen Test’

The Shang Chi star reveals how filming his latest espionage thriller pushed him to the edge with bruises, broken limits, and no stunt double to hide behind.

America, Oct 27 : Hollywood actor Simu Liu is returning to high-octane action with his upcoming espionage thriller series The Copenhagen Test   and this time, the bruises are all real.

In an interview with People magazine, the Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star revealed that shooting the series was one of the most physically demanding experiences of his career. Liu plays a Chinese-American intelligence analyst caught between a secret government agency and a network of deadly hackers.

“I got kicked in the face. Yeah. Many, many, many times,” Liu laughed   but the statement wasn’t an exaggeration.

Despite having “phenomenal” stunt coordinators, brothers James and Chris Mark, ensuring safety on set, Liu admitted that accidents were inevitable. “When you’re doing fight scenes or running full speed through a hallway and crash into three people, something’s bound to happen. I’ve been kicked, thrown, slammed into walls   it’s part of the job.”

While most actors rely on stunt doubles to minimize injuries, Liu insists on performing his own stunts. “There’s nothing wrong with using a double,” he explained, “but it limits what editors can do later. Some shots just don’t look right when it’s not you.”

For Liu, authenticity outweighs the risk. “When an actor does their own stunts, it gives the editor more freedom   they can cut from any angle, any time,” he said.

The actor also credited his determination to a lifelong competitive streak. “Honestly, it’s probably to my own detriment,” he admitted. “I’ve been like this since I was four. If I see someone doing something and think I could do it just as well or better, I’m like, ‘Alright, put me in there!’”

With The Copenhagen Test, Simu Liu once again proves his dedication to action — not just through his performance, but through every bruise that comes with it.
