After 45 days of protest, Sangharsh Samiti celebrates cancellation of MBBS seats at SMVD Medical College
Jammu, Jan 7: Leaders of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti on Wednesday termed the cancellation of MBBS admissions at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College, Reasi, as a major victory for their movement and expressed gratitude to Manoj Sinha for what they described as his positive and constructive role in the decision.
Addressing a press conference, the Samiti leadership said that certain remarks made against the Lieutenant Governor during the course of the prolonged agitation should not be viewed in any other context, asserting that such statements reflected the emotional intensity and pressure of the movement rather than any personal intent.
The leaders claimed that, as per information received from what they described as reliable sources, the Lieutenant Governor, along with the Union Home Ministry and the Union Health Ministry, played a decisive and facilitative role in the cancellation of admissions to all MBBS seats at the medical college. They maintained that sustained dialogue and intervention at the highest levels eventually led to the decision.
The Samiti said the agitation, which continued for nearly 45 days, witnessed widespread support from various sections of society across Jammu. “People from all walks of life stood with us throughout this movement. We are grateful to the Central Government for respecting what we believe are the sentiments and concerns of the Hindu community,” a Samiti leader said.
Acknowledging the role of the media, the Sangharsh Samiti also thanked journalists from Jammu for consistently highlighting their demands and presenting the protests in what they described as a fair and positive manner, which helped amplify their concerns at a larger level.
Following the press conference, Samiti leaders and supporters marked the occasion by distributing sweets, dancing, and playing dhols, celebrating what they termed the successful culmination of their agitation.
