30-11-2022: Students of the School of Civil Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, visited the High-Speed Rail (HSR) Institute, its Project site, and the Statue of Unity at Vadodara. They also visited landfill sites with waste management facilities, and plastic waste & biomedical waste treatment facilities at Surat, Gujarat. The trip aimed to make students familiar with India’s first high-speed rail project (Bullet Train) and the functioning of the High-Speed Rail Institute. Also, they learned about the role of engineering to construct the Statue of Unity and creating awareness of various waste management systems especially biomedical waste management and plastic waste management. Projects provided practical education about the HSR Railway Station, Pile Foundation, girder casting and launching, Ballast Less Track (BLT), and landfill, waste management, and environmental protection project planning, designing, construction, and maintenance procedure and its practices. The trip was organized by Dr. V.K. Dogra (Head, SoCE) in which fifty students took part.
The visit was coordinated and assisted by the faculty members and staff to the School of Civil Engineering, including Mr. Ponnurangam P, Dr. Rahul Sharma, Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Mr. Ankur Tyagi and Mr. Love Sharma. Colonel SS Kapur, Principal, Mr.Anupam Awasthi, Dy. CPM-Civil, Mr.Jai Singh, Dy. CPM-Civil, Mr. Abodh Kumar, Dy. CPM-Civil, Mr.Anoop Khare, DGM-Civil, Mr. Gaurav Srivastava, DGM-Civil officers from High-Speed Rail Institute Vadodara, Mr. Abbas Pathan, and the Surat Municipal Corporation officers coordinated the visit and made necessary arrangements. The trip was a roaring success and help students learn beyond the boundaries of books.
