Softball Championship concludes successfully in Jammu

Div Com laud J&K Sports Council, YSS for promoting sports at grassroots level

JAMMU, APRIL 01: The Softball J&K Championship 2025–26 concluded successfully at the GGM Science College Ground today, marking the culmination of a vibrant and competitive sporting event that witnessed enthusiastic participation from across Jammu and Kashmir.

The championship organised by the J&K Sports Council brought together around 400 athletes competing in the Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories, reflecting the growing popularity and development of softball in the region.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar as the chief guest. He was accompanied by the Secretary, J&K Sports Council, along with senior officials and representatives of the J&K Softball Association.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest congratulated the participating athletes for their spirited performances and appreciated the organisers for successfully conducting the championship. “Such events play a crucial role in channelising the energy of youth towards positive and constructive activities. The Government is continuously working to strengthen the sports ecosystem by providing better infrastructure, coaching and exposure to athletes across all disciplines,” he said adding that the Objective is to increase participation of youth in sports.

 In the final results, Jammu dominated the Sub Junior Girls and Junior Girls categories by clinching gold medals, with Pulwama and Budgam securing silver and bronze respectively in Sub Junior Girls. Srinagar and Kulgam secured silver and bronze in Junior Girls. In the Senior Girls category, Pulwama emerged as the winner, followed by Srinagar and Udhampur in second and third positions.

In the boys section, Srinagar secured top honours in both Sub Junior Boys and Junior Boys categories, with Samba finishing second and Jammu taking bronze in both. In the Senior Men category, Jammu clinched the gold medal, while Srinagar and Pulwama secured silver and bronze respectively.

The championship was conducted under the banner of the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan, promoting awareness against drug abuse and encouraging youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports. The message of “Say no to drugs and yes to sports” resonated throughout the event.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals and mementos among the winners and participants, celebrating excellence, sportsmanship and the growing sporting culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
