Special Investigation Agency Raids Key Accused’s House in Poonch in Connection with Narco-Terror Module

10-11-2023 : The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted a search operation at the residence of a key accused in a narco-terror module case in a hamlet near the Line of Control in Poonch district. The accused, Mohmmad Iqbal, was arrested in October from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. The case involves the cross-border smuggling of arms, explosives, and narcotics into Poonch.

Three accomplices of Iqbal were apprehended with a significant cache of arms, explosives, and narcotics near the border fence in Poonch’s Karmara area on the night of May 30-31. Iqbal had been on the run since then, eventually being tracked down and arrested in October. The module’s handler, Mohmmad Javed, was arrested in Delhi on August 19, leading to the arrest of another accused, Liyaqat, on August 25 in Poonch.

During the investigation, it was discovered that individuals from other countries were involved in the operations of the narco-terror module. The SIA has made six arrests so far, and further investigations into the cross-border operations of the module, which included smuggling arms, explosives, and narcotics, are ongoing.

In May, three individuals—Mohd Farooq (26), Mohd Riaz (23), and Mohd Zubair (22)—were arrested with an AK assault rifle, two pistols, six grenades, a 10-kg IED, and 20 packets of suspected heroin. They were attempting to smuggle these items into the country, and an exchange of fire occurred between the accused and army personnel during their interception, resulting in injuries to a soldier and a terrorist.

The SIA had previously conducted raids in Poonch from July 26 to 28, following the recovery of seven kg of heroin, over Rs 2 crore in cash, and a pistol with ammunition from the house of a drug smuggler, Rafiq Lala, in Danna Doyiyan area of Sathra on March 3. Ongoing investigations are delving into various aspects of the cross-border operations of the narco-terror module.
