‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Crosses USD 2 Billion at Global Box Office

Tom Holland and Zendaya-starrer becomes one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters, while its India run crosses the Rs 500 crore mark.

LOS ANGELES, Aug 17: Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has crossed the USD 2 billion milestone at the worldwide box office, marking a major commercial achievement for the superhero franchise.

According to entertainment outlet The Hollywood Reporter, the film has accumulated approximately USD 2.022 billion globally since its release on July 31.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie sees Holland return as Peter Parker, while Zendaya reprises her role as Michelle Jones-Watson. Jacob Batalon returns as Ned Leeds, with Krondon playing Tombstone and Sadie Sink portraying Jean Grey.

The film has also delivered a strong performance in India, where its earnings have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark. The achievement has placed the superhero movie among the country’s highest-grossing Hollywood releases.

The story centres on Peter Parker as he confronts a formidable new threat while dealing with an unexpected physical transformation brought on by the demands of his life as a crime-fighter.

Brand New Day marks the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.

The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Michael Mando as Scorpion.

With its strong international performance, the film has added another major box-office success to the Spider-Man franchise and further strengthened Marvel’s presence in the global theatrical market.
