Srinagar Police Launch Drive Against Rotten Meat Sale, Register 6 Cases
Flying squads seize large quantities of unhygienic meat, launch citywide inspections to safeguard public health.
Srinagar, Sep 12: In a decisive move to protect public health, Srinagar Police have registered six cases against butchers and shopkeepers accused of selling rotten meat in the city. The action follows coordinated inspections carried out with the civil administration and the food safety department.
The cases were lodged at Lal Bazar, Bemina, Batamaloo, Safakadal, Ram Munshi Bagh, and Zakura police stations. A special flying squad, comprising officials from the district police, civil authorities, and food safety teams, has been tasked with conducting surprise checks across Srinagar.
During the inspections, significant quantities of unhygienic and decomposed meat were seized and destroyed as per safety protocols. Officials confirmed that strict legal proceedings will be initiated against violators under the relevant provisions of law.
Authorities noted that the crackdown is part of a larger drive across Kashmir to curb the sale of substandard food items. Over the past few weeks, more than 5,000 kilograms of rotten meat have been confiscated and destroyed across the valley.
