Stalin Urges PM Modi to Protect Office’s Dignity, Stop Singling Out Tamils
Tamil Nadu CM says Modi’s comments on Biharis being harassed in Tamil Nadu are “reckless” and politically motivated calls on BJP to stop targeting Tamils for electoral gains.
Chennai, Oct 31 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments alleging harassment of Biharis by the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, calling them “reckless” and “divisive” ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
In a strongly worded post on X, Stalin reminded Modi that as Prime Minister, he represents the entire nation and must uphold the dignity of his office.
“Modi often forgets that he holds the high office of Hon’ble Prime Minister for all the people of this country. By making such remarks, he should not belittle or lose the dignity and responsibility of the office. It pains and agonises me as a Tamil,” Stalin wrote.
He accused the BJP of using Tamils as a political target in different states for electoral benefit. “Be it Odisha or Bihar, wherever they go, the BJP continues to spew spiteful vengeance against Tamils for political gain. I strongly condemn this as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” he added.
Stalin urged the Prime Minister and the BJP to refrain from “cheap politics” that incite enmity among communities. “India is a great nation that prides itself on unity in diversity. The Prime Minister should focus on the interests of the country, not on creating hatred between Tamils and people of Bihar,” he said.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore backed Stalin’s statement, alleging that Modi’s comments reflected the “RSS brand of hate politics.”
“This is his political DNA. While thousands of Bihari workers live and work peacefully in Tamil Nadu, the PM’s remarks aim to foment division and enmity,” Tagore wrote on X, praising Stalin’s response and calling for unity and pluralism.
The controversy revives memories of February 2023, when fake videos alleging attacks on Bihari workers in Tamil Nadu went viral ahead of then Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav’s visit. Investigations later revealed the videos to be fabricated, and cases were filed against those responsible, including some media outlets.
Stalin’s statement marks a sharp escalation in the political rhetoric between the DMK and BJP as both parties position themselves for key state and national elections.
