Strengthen Human Intelligence to Dismantle Terror, Narco Networks in Poonch: DIG Tajinder Singh
Police Intensify Intelligence and Community Outreach to Check Terror Ecosystem in Poonch
JAMMU, Dec 28: A senior Jammu and Kashmir Police officer has underlined the critical importance of strengthening human intelligence to counter cross-border narcotic smuggling and terror networks in the border district of Poonch.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajouri–Poonch Range, Tajinder Singh, while chairing a comprehensive intelligence, security and crime review meeting in Poonch, stressed that effective human intelligence collection remains the backbone of proactive and preventive policing in sensitive border areas.
Addressing officers drawn from various operational units, the DIG called for innovative and sustained intelligence collection and analysis to effectively dismantle the terror and narco ecosystem operating along the Line of Control. He emphasised that timely and actionable intelligence at the grassroots level is essential to stay ahead of hostile elements and organised criminal networks.
The DIG reviewed ongoing operations against narco-smuggling and terror-related activities and directed officers to rejuvenate the intelligence grid by reinforcing human intelligence sources at the village and mohalla levels. He underscored the need for close coordination between field units to ensure seamless flow of information and early threat detection.
Highlighting the importance of community-oriented policing, the DIG issued clear instructions for the effective implementation of the beat system. He said beat officers must focus on the identification and sustained surveillance of individuals linked to the terror ecosystem, narco-support structures, absconders and persons with criminal antecedents. Regular beat checks, structured community interaction and systematic documentation of intelligence inputs were stressed as key components of this approach.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Shafqat Hussain briefed the meeting on the prevailing security and intelligence scenario of the district. Officers present provided detailed presentations on the status of field intelligence networks, existing security arrangements and operational preparedness across police stations, police posts and Special Operation Group camps.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives being undertaken to maintain peace and thwart anti-national and criminal activities, with an emphasis on strengthening coordination among various wings of the police and security agencies.
Following the review meeting, the DIG, accompanied by the SSP Poonch, visited Kirni and Qasba villages located close to the Line of Control. The visit aimed at strengthening police–public relations and addressing the concerns of residents living in forward and vulnerable areas.
During a public interaction held across the border fence, the officers listened to grievances raised by local residents, including issues related to civic amenities, security challenges, movement restrictions and hardships specific to border life. The DIG assured the residents that their concerns would be addressed on a priority basis through time-bound redressal and coordination with relevant departments. The SSP reiterated that grievances falling within the police domain would be resolved promptly.
Police officials also appealed to the local population to extend full cooperation to law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, law and order and overall security in the border belt. They emphasised that public trust and participation are vital in strengthening intelligence networks and ensuring long-term stability in sensitive frontier districts.
