Taiwan Reports Surge in Chinese Military Activity Near Its Borders

MND detects 11 PLA aircraft, 7 naval vessels and 1 official ship near Taiwan; 9 jets cross median line into ADIZ.

TAIPEI, Sept 27: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported a significant surge in Chinese military activity around its territory, detecting 11 aircraft, seven naval vessels, and one official ship by 6 a.m. on Friday (local time).

The MND confirmed that nine out of the 11 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) sorties crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the island’s northern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). “We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” the ministry said in a post on X.

This development comes a day after Taiwan tracked one Chinese aircraft and five naval vessels near its waters on Thursday, with the lone aircraft also breaching Taiwan’s northern ADIZ.

The frequent incursions highlight escalating tensions between Taiwan and China. While Taiwan operates as a self-governing democracy with its own political and economic systems, Beijing continues to claim sovereignty over the island under its “One China” principle.

China has intensified military, diplomatic, and economic pressure on Taiwan, seeking reunification, while Taipei maintains its de facto independence, supported by public opinion and regular military readiness. The MND has vowed to continue closely monitoring such activities to ensure national security.
