Taiwan Spots 3 Chinese Warplanes and 4 Naval Vessels Near Its Territory

Taiwan’s Defence Ministry reports latest PLA incursions amid escalating cross-strait tensions.

TAIPEI, Sept 22: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) on Monday reported a new round of Chinese military activity near the island, detecting three PLA aircraft sorties and four People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels operating in the region until 6 a.m. local time.

“The ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” the MND confirmed in a post on X.

This comes a day after Taiwan observed two PLA aircraft sorties and six PLAN vessels in its surrounding waters and airspace, underscoring a pattern of frequent incursions and maritime operations by Beijing.

Military pressure around Taiwan has intensified in recent years as China continues to assert its territorial claims under the “One China” principle. Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), governs itself independently with its own political and economic systems but faces constant diplomatic and military pressure from Beijing, which seeks reunification.

The tensions trace back to 1949, when the ROC government relocated to Taiwan after the Communist Party took control of mainland China. Since then, Taiwan has functioned as a self-ruled democracy, while China maintains reunification as a long-term goal.

Despite Beijing’s military maneuvers, Taiwan asserts its de facto independence and continues to strengthen transparency by regularly reporting Chinese military movements to safeguard national security and reassure its citizens.
