Tamil Nadu Class 12 Board Exams Begin Today Amid High Student Turnout
Over 8.27 lakh students appear as Plus Two public examinations commence; CBSE announces digital evaluation shift
Chennai, Mar 2: The Tamil Nadu Class 12 Board Exams 2026 commenced on Monday with a massive turnout across the state, as students appeared for their first public examination at designated centres.
The Plus Two examinations, conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), will continue until March 26. On the opening day, language papers, including Tamil, were held. A total of 8,27,475 students are writing the exams at 3,412 centres established across Tamil Nadu.
At a government higher secondary school in Arumbakkam, Chennai, students arrived early, accompanied by parents and teachers. Authorities ensured arrangements such as proper seating, drinking water, and security measures for the smooth conduct of the examination process.
Officials confirmed that all centres were equipped with necessary facilities and that guidelines were strictly followed. School authorities supervised proceedings to maintain order and transparency.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a key change in its evaluation process. Beginning 2026, CBSE will reintroduce On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer sheets to improve efficiency and accuracy. Under this system, scanned answer scripts will be assessed digitally, with marks calculated automatically.
Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be evaluated manually for now. CBSE is conducting its 2026 board examinations from February 17 to April 10 for over 46 lakh students across more than 8,074 centres in India and 26 countries abroad.
