Tamil Nadu Polls: Piyush Goyal Set to Finalise NDA Seat Sharing Deal Today

Crucial talks with AIADMK and allies expected to seal alliance formula ahead of Assembly elections

CHENNAI, March 23: Union Minister Piyush Goyal is set to hold key discussions in Chennai to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement within the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The visit follows a breakthrough meeting in New Delhi between Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which helped resolve major sticking points that had delayed alliance negotiations.

With a broad understanding already in place, the latest round of talks is expected to address remaining differences over select constituencies where multiple allies have laid claim. The discussions aim to strike a balance that preserves coalition unity while enhancing electoral competitiveness.

State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran indicated that meetings will involve key partners including All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK).

Sources suggest the BJP may contest close to 30 seats, while PMK and AMMK are expected to receive a significant share, with smaller allies accommodated based on regional influence.

Key constituencies in Chennai and other urban centres remain under discussion, alongside strategic regions such as Coimbatore and Kanyakumari. With most disagreements resolved, the alliance is likely to announce the final seat-sharing formula soon as the election schedule approaches.
