Tariq Karra Welcomes J&K Budget, Says It Covers Key Social Sectors but Needs Deeper Analysis

Jammu, 07-03-2025: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Friday welcomed the budget presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing it as “pro-people” and “positive.” However, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive review to identify potential shortcomings and assess its long-term impact.

Reacting to the budget, Karra acknowledged that it covers key social sectors and prioritizes the welfare of the most vulnerable sections of society. “From what we have seen so far, the budget appears to be in favour of the people. It carries a positive outlook and has touched almost all major social sectors,” he stated.

While appreciating the government’s approach, Karra refrained from making a definitive judgment, citing the necessity of a detailed analysis. “Only after thoroughly studying the budget can we determine if the gaps have been effectively addressed,” he said.

The JKPCC chief also indicated that the Congress Party has no immediate objections but will closely scrutinize the provisions and their implementation. “Now, let us see the fixed modalities, and we will evaluate the finer details,” he remarked.

On the government’s announcement of free 200 units of electricity for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families, Karra pointed out that Congress had also advocated for similar relief for poor families. He highlighted that while the initiative was a welcome step, the scope and reach of such measures need to be expanded to benefit a larger section of the population.

Expressing an overall positive stance, Karra reiterated that the budget appears promising at first glance, but its effectiveness will ultimately depend on how well its provisions are implemented on the ground.
