Tawi Trekkers J&K Delegation Set to Scale New Heights at 17th National Open Sport Climbing Competition in Delhi

Jammu, 05-04-2024: A seven-member delegation from Tawi Trekkers J&K, including two officials, embarked on a journey to Delhi today to partake in the 17th National Open Sport Climbing Competition. The event, organized by the Hiking Club of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone, is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 7th, 2024.

The team comprises three boys, namely Aradhya Manhas, Ankush Singh, and Rudhra Rajput, who will compete in the junior boys category, along with two girls, Shivani Charak in the open category and Ayaana Bhagat in the junior girls category. They are set to participate in both Lead and Speed competitions.

This newly-formed team exhibits a mix of seasoned climbers and emerging talent. While Shivani Charak boasts a distinguished career with numerous national medals and an international accolade, the other climbers, though immensely talented, lack exposure at the national level. Nevertheless, the team is anticipated to deliver commendable performances.

Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and Joint Secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, will serve as the team manager. Arun Deep Singh, a proficient climber who is unable to compete due to injury, will accompany the team as the manager.

Prior to their departure, the team members met with Shawetica Khajuria and Sonam Sidharth, President and General Secretary, respectively, of Tawi Trekkers J&K. They received assurances of full support for future competitions and were extended best wishes for success in the national competition.
