“Telangana Records Historic Paddy Procurement of 70.82 Lakh Tonnes”

Over 14 Lakh Farmers Benefit from MSP and ₹1,425 Crore Bonus; State Achieves Milestone Ahead of Sankranti

Hyderabad, Jan 14: Telangana has achieved a record paddy procurement of 70.82 lakh tonnes during the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, surpassing the 70.2 lakh tonnes procured in 2020-21.

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said the milestone has benefitted around 14 lakh farmers across the state. Farmers were paid ₹16,606 crore as Minimum Support Price (MSP), along with a bonus of ₹1,425 crore, marking a Sankranti bonanza for Telangana’s agricultural community.

The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural prosperity, attributing the success to strong collaboration with the farming community.

Of the total 70.82 lakh tonnes, 32.45 lakh tonnes were coarse paddy, while 38.37 lakh tonnes were of the fine variety. Farmers cultivating fine paddy received a bonus of ₹500 per quintal. On the eve of Sankranti, the Civil Supplies Department released ₹500 crore towards bonus payments under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, bringing the total disbursed bonuses to ₹1,429 crore.

Earlier, in October 2025, Uttam Kumar Reddy had announced that Telangana achieved an all-time high paddy production of 148.03 lakh tonnes, the highest by any state in India. This record production was credited to policies initiated by the state government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

To facilitate procurement, the state set up 8,342 paddy procurement centres across 66.8 lakh acres of farmland. Among these, 4,259 centres operated through primary agricultural cooperative societies, 3,517 via IKP centres, and 566 through other organisations.
