The Devil Wears Prada 2 Box Office Day 6: Meryl Streep & Anne Hathaway Film Crosses ₹20 Crore Mark in India
Strong Start Followed by Weekday Dip as Fashion Drama Holds Steady at the Box Office
India, May 07 : The much talked about sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 is heading towards the end of its first week in theatres on a solid note, having crossed the ₹20 crore milestone at the Indian box office.
As per early industry estimates reported by Sacnilk, the film completed its six-day theatrical run on Wednesday with cumulative India gross earnings of around ₹20.34 crore. The fashion centric drama, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, has managed to maintain a steady pace despite increased competition from local releases.
On Day 6, the film is estimated to have earned approximately ₹1.25 crore, reflecting a drop in momentum after a strong opening weekend. Its total India net collection now stands at about ₹17.05 crore, supported by screenings across 1,547 shows nationwide.
Weekend Boost Driven by Nostalgia and Urban Audience Response
The film opened to a promising ₹3.80 crore on its first day, followed by ₹4 crore on Day 2 and ₹3.85 crore on Day 3. The early surge was largely attributed to nostalgia for the original cult hit and strong audience turnout in metro multiplex circuits.
However, the weekday trend showed a gradual decline. Collections slipped to ₹1.25 crore on Day 4 and further to ₹1.20 crore on Day 5, indicating a typical post-weekend slowdown.
Overseas Performance Strengthens Global Total
While domestic earnings have moderated, the film continues to perform strongly in international markets. Early trade reports suggest significant overseas traction, particularly in the US and other key territories.
The global performance has pushed the film’s total worldwide gross to an estimated ₹2,450 crore equivalent, with the US and Canadian markets contributing around USD 77 million and other international regions adding approximately USD 156.6 million. The film was reportedly made on a budget of about USD 100 million.
Set in the Modern Fashion World
Directed by David Frankel, the sequel revisits the high-stakes world of Runway magazine in New York. The story explores how its iconic characters adapt to the evolving fashion and media industry, where digital influence is reshaping traditional luxury and power structures.
With its nostalgic appeal and global brand recognition, the film is expected to see further gains in its second weekend if audience interest holds.
