Tiger Shroff Firing: Culprits and Their Handlers Will Be Tracked Down, Won’t Be Spared, Says Fadnavis
Maharashtra CM says police have secured crucial leads in the shooting incident in Mumbai’s Juhu area; Crime Branch takes over probe as actor receives security assurance.
MUMBAI, Oct 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday vowed strict action against those involved in the firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, saying police would track down both the assailants and their handlers, regardless of where they operate.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis said investigators had obtained crucial leads regarding the identities of the suspects and expressed confidence that they would be apprehended soon.
According to the chief minister, the accused were operating from outside Maharashtra and could have links abroad. He said the state police would coordinate with law enforcement agencies in other states and seek assistance from central agencies to ensure their arrest.
Fadnavis also stressed that those directing criminal activities from behind the scenes would be identified and brought to justice.
Unidentified assailants opened fire at Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver and another person sustained injuries.
A social media post claiming responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has circulated online. However, police have not yet authenticated the post or confirmed the gang’s involvement.
The Mumbai Police have registered an attempt-to-murder case against three unidentified persons. The investigation has been transferred to the Crime Branch, officials said.
Describing the attackers as cowards, Fadnavis said the government would not take threats lightly and would ensure that those responsible faced legal action.
He added that individuals allegedly involved in similar activities from within Maharashtra had already been arrested, while those operating from other states or foreign locations would be pursued through coordinated investigations.
The chief minister said he had spoken to Shroff following the incident and assured him that the matter was being treated with utmost seriousness. He also said security arrangements would be provided to the actor.
Fadnavis further criticised the Opposition over its allegations concerning the state’s law-and-order situation. Referring to the 2021 Antilia bomb scare and the subsequent murder of Mansukh Hiran, he questioned the Opposition’s record on public safety during its tenure.
He also raised allegations concerning irregularities in police transfers and postings under the previous government, arguing that the present administration was committed to maintaining law and order.
Describing the Mumbai Police as a professional force, Fadnavis said it continued to enjoy public confidence, including among members of the film industry.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to establish the identities of the suspects, determine the motive behind the shooting and verify any possible links to organised criminal networks.
