Tim Blake Nelson and Jharrel Jerome Join Cast of ‘Task 2’
The upcoming season expands its ensemble as the crime drama returns with new characters alongside several familiar faces.
Los Angeles: HBO has expanded the cast of its upcoming crime drama “Task 2” by adding acclaimed actors Tim Blake Nelson and Jharrel Jerome to the highly anticipated second season. The new additions strengthen the ensemble as production moves forward on the follow-up to the successful 2025 debut.
Tim Blake Nelson, widely recognised for his performances in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and several award winning productions, will portray Denny Coughlin, a veteran police officer known for operating by his own rules before joining Tom Brandis’ specialised task force.
Jharrel Jerome, who earned widespread praise for his work in I’m a Virgo, has been cast as Jordan Barnes, the son of Eddie Barnes, bringing another important character into the evolving storyline.
According to entertainment industry reports, the second season will also feature Brian F. O’Byrne, Bethlehem Million, Kevin Dunn and Andrew Russel in significant roles, further expanding the series’ ensemble cast.
Created by Brad Ingelsby, who also serves as the show’s writer and showrunner, Task is set in the working-class suburbs outside Philadelphia. The crime thriller follows an FBI agent leading a specialised task force assigned to dismantle a group responsible for a series of drug house robberies orchestrated by an unlikely family man.
Mark Ruffalo is set to return for the new season, reprising his role after leading the first instalment, which premiered in 2025 and received positive attention for its grounded storytelling and character driven narrative.
The returning cast also includes Mahershala Ali, Julianne Nicholson, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, Aminah Nieves, Edgar Ramírez, Martha Plimpton and Silvia Dionicio, promising another season featuring a blend of established characters and fresh faces.
With filming progressing and the cast now largely in place, expectations are high that the second season will build on the critical acclaim of its predecessor while introducing new conflicts and deeper character arcs within the gripping crime drama.
