TMC-BJP Clash Outside CEO’s Office Suvendu Adhikari ‘Shown Shoes’ by Protesters
LoP Suvendu Adhikari Shows Resilience Amid Shoe-Throwing Incident, Police Intervene to Control Scuffle
Kolkata: Activists of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP clashed outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in central Kolkata on Tuesday evening, following an incident in which TMC workers allegedly showed shoes to Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari and raised “go back” slogans.
BJP sources said Adhikari, who visited the CEO’s office to submit evidence related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls (SIR), was met with black flags and shoe-throwing but was safely escorted by police to his vehicle near GPO. Angered BJP activists scuffled with TMC workers, though law enforcement separated both groups to prevent escalation.
Unfazed, Adhikari shouted “Jai Shri Ram” alongside his supporters. TMC accused BJP of using goons to intimidate officers and protesters, calling the area a “warzone” and urging the Election Commission to take strict action. A senior police official confirmed the situation remained under control after Adhikari left, while he criticized TMC for orchestrating the chaos.
