Tony criticizes Education Dept for pitiable condition of Govt schools in Suchetgarh

Take DDC members into confidence before finalizing any plans

JAMMU, Sep 9: Congress leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has strongly criticized the Education Department for failing to engage in consultations with local DDC members, thereby disregarding the importance of PRI (Panchayati Raj Institutions) in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it as a violation of directives issued by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and the Government of India (GOI).

Taranjit Singh’s remarks came after his attendance at a meeting convened by the Education Department, during which he raised several pressing concerns.
Speaking at the District Development Council meeting here today, Tony highlighted the precarious state of numerous school buildings in Suchetgarh which are unsafe for students. He emphasized that, regrettably, these schools are the only option available for local children, forcing parents to send their wards into potentially dangerous environments.

Expressing his deep disappointment, Tony attributed this situation to poor planning and the failure to involve local DDC members in decision-making processes. He underscored the ineffectiveness of various education initiatives, citing the alarming closure of approximately 4000 schools within the past five to six years. He asserted that this significant reduction in educational institutions has resulted in widespread unemployment, particularly among teaching and support staff.

In a fervent appeal to Commissioner Secretary Alok Kumar, Tony urged immediate intervention and called for the Education Department to engage in a more inclusive approach. He emphasized the critical need for DDC members to be consulted and taken into confidence before finalizing any plans related to the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
