Tony flays Govt’s undemocratic order banning employee protests

Appeals people to vote out BJP in 2024

SUCHETGARH, Nov 6: Criticizing the government over its autocratic mindset that led to banning thousands of employees in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) from holding protests and demonstrations, Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and DDC Member Suchetgarh, strongly condemned the undemocratic order issued by the J&K government, terming it as against the principles of natural justice and fundamental rights.

Notably, the J&K Government had issued an order on November 4, 2023, banning all government employees from participating in any form of protest or demonstration, including strikes and rallies. The order also warned that any employee violating the order would be subject to disciplinary action, including termination of employment.

While inaugurating blacktopping work at Suchetgarh, the senior Congress leader said that the government’s order was a clear violation of the fundamental right to protest, which is enshrined in the Constitution of India. He said that the government’s attempt to silence its employees was a reflection of its authoritarian mindset and its intolerance of dissent.

Tony also said that the government’s order was a direct attack on the democratic fabric of India. He said that the right to protest was essential for a healthy democracy and that the government’s attempt to suppress it was a dangerous development.

Tony appealed to all the people to root out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) through their vote power in the 2024 general election. He said that all independent institutions of the country, including the judiciary, were under grave threat by the BJP/RSS-led government.

“This is not the India for which our freedom fighters fought,” Tony said. “The Modi-led government is hell-bent on crushing employees by issuing these dictatorial orders.”

“In the coming months, when the citizens of India are provided the chance to exercise their vote power in 2024, the BJP/RSS-led Modi government must be shown the door to save our autonomous and independent institutions of India,” Tony said.
