Tony strongly condemns Murderous Attack on Sr. journalist Ajay Meenia

Jammu, April 9: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has strongly condemned the heinous attack on Ajay Meenia, a senior correspondent of Amar Ujala and an executive member of the Press Club Jammu. The incident, which occurred near the Kullian area of RS Pura, has been described by Tony as nothing short of an attempt to murder and a direct assault on the freedom of the press.

Expressing deep concern over the safety of journalists in the region, Tony urged the local police administration to take immediate and stringent action against the culprits involved. “This was not just an attack on an individual, but on the fourth pillar of democracy. Such gunda elements must be dealt with firmly to ensure that the voice of truth is not silenced by violence and intimidation,” Tony said in his statement.

He appealed to the SDPO RS Pura and the concerned DySP to ensure that a thorough and impartial investigation is conducted, covering all possible angles of the case. “A tough lesson must be taught to those behind this cowardly act, so that such incidents do not recur in future,” he added.

Tony also demanded that the Police Department provide adequate security cover to journalists, especially those working in sensitive areas, to safeguard their lives and allow them to perform their duties without fear. “This brutal attack is a wake-up call. The government and the police must act swiftly to uphold the dignity and security of the press,” he added.
