Traffic Cop Suspended for Shooting Reel in Official Vehicle on Snowy Mughal Road
Misuse of Official Vehicle: Traffic Sub-Inspector Suspended in Mughal Road Incident
JAMMU, Dec 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have placed a traffic police sub-inspector under suspension for allegedly misusing an official vehicle to shoot a social media reel on the snow-covered Mughal Road in Poonch district, an act that has sparked widespread concern over safety and professional conduct.
Officials said Sub-Inspector Gul Sheraz, who was posted as Sector Officer (Traffic) on the Mughal Road, was suspended pending a departmental inquiry after a video showing him protruding out of the open front door of a moving official vehicle near the snowbound Peer Ki Gali went viral on social media.
The footage, reportedly recorded during hazardous winter conditions, drew sharp criticism from the public and authorities alike, as the Mughal Road remains highly vulnerable to accidents due to heavy snowfall, slippery stretches and poor visibility during this time of year.
Traffic officials said the incident raised serious questions about adherence to safety norms and the responsible use of government vehicles, particularly by personnel entrusted with enforcing traffic discipline in sensitive and high-risk zones.
Following the incident, ASI Anil Kumar has been deployed as the new Sector Officer (Traffic) on the Mughal Road. Sub-Inspector Sheraz has been directed to report to the Traffic Police Lines, Rural Jammu, with immediate effect.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Rural Jammu, has ordered a formal departmental inquiry into the matter. The probe will be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Rajouri-Poonch, to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine accountability.
Officials reiterated that any misuse of official resources or conduct endangering public safety would be dealt with strictly, especially in areas where road conditions remain extremely challenging during winter months.
