Transport Fare Regulation Tightened in Kashmir Following Complaints

Special Enforcement Teams to Conduct Surprise Inspections to Protect Fruit Growers and Traders

Srinagar, Sep 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department has taken strict action against transport companies accused of charging excessive fares from fruit growers and mandi traders. In response to complaints, the department has ordered the formation of Special Enforcement Teams across the Kashmir Division.

In an official communication, Joint Transport Commissioner Vikas Anand (JKAS) directed the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir and all Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) to carry out frequent and surprise inspections at major fruit mandis. The initiative aims to safeguard growers and sellers from harassment or unfair transport charges.

The enforcement teams are required to submit daily compliance reports to the Transport Commissioner’s office. A dedicated team led by ARTO Mauzam Ali in Srinagar will monitor two districts daily and take immediate action on complaints.

This move comes amid rising concerns from fruit growers and traders who have reported exploitation by certain transport companies during the peak trading season.
